How much does removing a collectible barbie from the box reduce the sale price?
I'm looking at a doll on ebay…in mint condition it sells for about $275.
If the doll has been removed from her box and packaging, displayed on her stand, but all the accessories and slightly damaged box are included…how much would you guess the price should be dropped? The person is also new to ebay and has no feedback, I know that also factors into the price.
I'm making an offer, but think it would be significantly lower.
I think she was realeased in the mid-1990's…it's the 1st Hard Rock Cafe Barbie.
I would hazard the guess of around $225.00. The highest I'd go is $200. I would be very cautious, especially right now in buying from a person brand new to eBay. I know I'm very cynical, but eBay's steady long time sellers are very unhappy and not doing their usual amount of listing. There have been allot of people appearing out of the blue as 'new' sellers.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

It depends on the buyer.
It depends on the age of the box and the doll.
I'm feeling bad because I bought a nice Somers & Field doll NRFB and it was mailed insured without enough packing all around it to protect it from the post office, so the shipping box was gashed and made a puncture/slash about 5" long in the doll box.
Now, if I take it to the post office to collect insurance, I am afraid I will have to surrender the entire doll in order to collect on it, as "the value of a box on a doll never removed from the box" is not something that most people consider even discussing.
Generally, a "slightly damaged box" is just that, usually so slightly damaged that it is unnoticeable; most of us list items with possible damage points noted just in case, and they sound much worse than they really are.
If this is one of the original 1959-1960 dolls with box, damage means nothing.
If it's later than 1975, the price is pretty steep in or out of box.
Again, it depends on the doll. You can contact me at eBay and show me the item there; my id. is the same.
